Frequently Asked Questions

You can securely attach Boltdown Plates to patio, paving slabs, stone, bricks and decking. Where you have tarmac, we'd recommend digging holes in the tarmac and using our ground spike cat enclosures instead.

Ground spikes are used in all types of soft landscaping such as turf and soil. Ground spikes snuggly attach into 1.8m Cat Enclosure Posts and they are 66.5cm long. It is essential that you ensure there are no utilities underneath the area you wish to install the Cat Enclosure and isolate all power supplies before you start to dig.

We suggest maximum post intervals of 3 metres or 9 feet. You can choose to brace the cat enclosure every third post or 9 metres for added stability in soft or unstable ground.

Where the ground is unstable or you are fitting the enclosure in an exposed area, consider adding rigidity with braces. Cat Enclosure Braces can be fitted to every third post, on every corner and to gate frame posts to add rigidity and stability.

Neighbourhood cats do have the physical ability to jump into your garden from on top of your fence. However, most cats will see that there is no exit from the garden and choose not to enter. Our customers report that neighbour’s cats tend to choose not to enter their gardens because they cannot see an escape. If you are leaving your garden unsupervised while going on holiday for instance, it is a good idea to leave an escape route for any cats that might enter (a wheelie bin against the fence is a good solution).

ProtectaPet cannot offer planning advice because regulations vary by area. Generally speaking, cat fencing solutions are not permanent structures and are below 2m in height. Please keep in mind that planning regulations in front gardens and in conservation areas are more restrictive. We advise you to contact your local authority for advice specific to your circumstances.
