If you're considering purchasing a pre-owned ProtectaPet system or planning to reuse your existing one at a new location, this guide will help you make an informed decision.
IMPORTANT: Please be aware of FAKE ProtectaPet items. Always ask for proof of purchase when buying a second-hand item. If you're unsure, don't purchase.
ProtectaPet Steel Components (Brackets, Catios, and Posts)
ProtectaPet products are built to last, with steel components that are either galvanised or powder-coated to prevent rust. However, it’s important to inspect the steel for any damage. If the protective coating is torn, rust could develop over time.
As long as there are no visible signs of rust or wear, it’s generally safe to buy second-hand ProtectaPet brackets or posts, or to reuse your system when moving to a new home. ProtectaPet corner adaptors are also suitable for reuse.
Note: You may need to purchase new fixtures, which are available at most hardware stores.
ProtectaPet Mesh
ProtectaPet offers two types of mesh:
Poly-Mesh (Cat-Mesh)This is the most commonly used mesh in ProtectaPet systems, such as Cat Fence Barriers, Catios, and Cat Enclosures. It's not recommended to reuse poly-mesh, but you can easily purchase new mesh in lengths ranging from 5 to 100 metres on our website:
- 1m Mesh for Cat Fence Standard and Extra Long Barriers
- 2m Mesh for Catios, Enclosures, and Cat Fence Extension Barriers
You'll also need cable ties to secure the mesh, which are available on our site along with other tools and components here.
Steel MeshThe steel mesh is designed to last and, like the galvanised or powder-coated steel, should be inspected for damage or rust. Also the length may be an issue as it is customised to fit the previous garden layout. If it’s in good condition and matches your space, you can reuse it. If not, you can find new steel mesh here.
Final thoughts
If you're still unsure after reviewing this guide, it might be best to avoid buying a second-hand ProtectaPet system or reusing certain parts. In some cases, you may be able to reuse some components while replacing others.
