The Blue Cross launched the Pet Bereavement Support Service in 1994, to support grieving pet owners through difficult times. The loss of a pet, through death or separation, can be a very sad and difficult period when you have formed a deep emotional attachment. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds man a phoneline and email account, providing a listening ear to grief-stricken pet owners, family members and friends as they come to terms with their loss.
ProtectaPet, a cat fencing company, was formed following the tragic loss of the founders’ cat in a road traffic accident. The founders, Simon and Eve Davies, say: ‘When you have built your home and everyday routines around a beloved companion animal, it is shocking and extremely emotional challenging to adjust to life without them. Some friends and family may not understand the gravity of the emotional distress that you are experiencing, and the Pet Bereavement Support Service offers an invaluable source of strength. As ProtectaPet has grown in success, it seemed to be a 'purrfect' choice of charity to support.’
The Blue Cross distribute 45,000 support leaflets every year to grieving owners of pets of all types. If you or anyone you know would like to access their services, please use the information below:
