ProtectaPet is marking the one-year anniversary of our upgraded cat fence brackets, which significantly reduce the electricity needed in manufacturing and the associated carbon impact.
Over the past year, we upgraded our production process from a traditional CO₂ laser method to a more efficient fibre laser and press approach. This reduced the energy required to make each bracket from 1,440 Wh to just 20–64 Wh, a reduction of around 95–99% per bracket.
Based on our current production levels, this change saves around 41–43 MWh of electricity each year. Using the UK grid average emissions factor for electricity generated (0.225 kg CO₂e per kWh), that equates to approximately 9.3–9.6 tonnes of CO₂e avoided annually.
To put that into everyday terms, the electricity saved each year is roughly comparable to the annual electricity use of around a dozen UK homes (depending on household usage).
